Overview
Most unpowered assets do not need constant tracking — they need reliable evidence when it matters. GPT12-X Ultra is built exactly for that: eDRX + PSM sleep architecture keeps idle current in the microamp range, waking only on motion, tampering, schedule or remote command, so a single primary cell delivers years of dependable visibility instead of months.
Nordic nRF9161 SiP Core
Single System-in-Package integrating the LTE-M / NB-IoT modem, application MCU and hardware security, paired with a dedicated multi-constellation GNSS receiver for long-life deployments on modern IoT networks.
Multi-Year Primary Lithium Power
Sealed 5000 mAh Li-MnO₂ primary cell with near-zero self-discharge eliminates chargers and wiring, enabling multi-year autonomy at low reporting rates for truly deploy-and-forget installations.
eDRX + PSM Instant-Wake Architecture
eDRX keeps a lightweight control channel open for SMS and downlink commands, while PSM drives idle current into the microamp range. The device sleeps most of the time yet wakes instantly on network or sensor events.
Global LTE-M / NB-IoT Connectivity

Operating Modes & Battery Scenarios
Choose the right mode for your use case — each one balances tracking frequency against battery life, and modes can be switched remotely at any time.
Long Standby Mode
How it works: Wakes at preset intervals (e.g. every 24 hours), acquires a GNSS position, reports, then immediately returns to deep sleep.
Best for: Shipping containers, static pallets, warehouse inventory, long-term storage, assets in remote locations.
Trip Mode
How it works: Records the start position when motion is detected and logs the stop position after ~4 minutes of inactivity, minimizing data transmission.
Best for: Rental equipment, trailers, returnable pallets, vehicles with intermittent use.
Activity Mode
How it works: Wakes on motion and reports every 5–10 minutes while moving; auto-sleeps after ~4 minutes of inactivity.
Best for: Active fleets, construction equipment on job sites, regular shipments needing live visibility.
Emergency Mode
How it works: Maximum intensity — reports every 1–5 minutes continuously (configurable). Triggered remotely via SMS, platform or API, then auto-reverts.
Best for: Theft recovery, high-value asset protection, temporary live tracking during incidents.
Battery Life Estimator
Pick a mode and adjust how often the device reports or moves — the estimate updates instantly. Figures are indicative for typical LTE-M conditions at moderate temperatures.
Estimates are indicative. Actual battery life depends on reporting frequency, network quality, GNSS fix conditions, ambient temperature, movement events and emergency-mode usage.
How to Choose Your Mode
- Storage / warehouse: use Long Standby Mode for maximum battery life.
- Periodic shipments: use Trip Mode to log start / stop positions only.
- Regular operations: use Activity Mode for tracking while moving, auto-sleep when idle.
- Emergency / theft: activate Emergency Mode remotely for continuous live location until the asset is recovered.

Frequently Asked Questions
Quick answers to the most common questions about GPT12-X Ultra battery life, connectivity, installation and integration.
What is the actual battery life of the GPT12-X Ultra?
GPT12-X Ultra is designed as a multi-year tracker. In typical deployments with one location report per day on LTE-M / NB-IoT, plan for around 3 years of battery life. In ultra-low-frequency profiles on optimized networks, deployments can reach roughly 4–5 years. Actual life varies with reporting interval, use of emergency tracking, network quality and ambient temperature.
Can I extend the battery life?
Yes. To maximize battery life:
- Use low-frequency reporting where possible (for example, one report every 24–48 hours).
- Reserve Emergency or real-time modes for short incidents instead of continuous use.
- Use standby or deep-sleep profiles when assets are idle for long periods.
- Rely on motion-triggered wake so the device reports mainly when the asset actually moves.
Is the battery replaceable?
The internal primary lithium battery is not user-replaceable. GPT12-X Ultra uses a sealed IP67 enclosure and non-rechargeable lithium-manganese chemistry to achieve multi-year life, very low self-discharge and robust environmental protection. At end-of-life, plan to replace the unit or use Eelink’s repair / refurbishment services according to your contract.
Does GPT12-X Ultra support continuous real-time tracking?
Not as a permanent mode. GPT12-X Ultra is designed for low-frequency, event-aware visibility: Activity mode reports every 5–10 minutes while assets move, and Emergency mode delivers 1–5 minute live tracking on demand for theft recovery or incidents. Running high-frequency tracking continuously would consume the primary battery in weeks. For always-on live tracking with vehicle power, consider the wired TK417 instead.
Can the tracker be woken up remotely?
Yes. Thanks to the Nordic nRF9161’s eDRX and PSM capabilities, GPT12-X Ultra can listen for network pages even while sleeping. An authorized SMS or downlink command can wake the device, request an immediate location, or switch the operating mode to a higher-frequency emergency profile.
Which cellular networks does GPT12-X Ultra support?
GPT12-X Ultra uses LTE Cat M1 (LTE-M) and NB-IoT (NB2) for wide-area connectivity. The radio covers commonly used IoT bands including B1, B2, B3, B4, B5, B8, B12, B13, B14, B17, B18, B19, B20, B25, B26, B28 and B66, enabling deployments across North America, Europe, Asia-Pacific and many other regions. There is no 2G / 3G fallback, so LTE-M or NB-IoT coverage is required for live reporting.
What positioning technologies are supported?
GPT12-X Ultra uses multi-constellation GNSS — GPS, BeiDou, GLONASS, Galileo and QZSS — plus cellular LBS as a backup when GNSS is unavailable. In good sky-view conditions GNSS accuracy is typically within a few meters, while LBS provides coarse positioning (on the order of 100–200 meters) in dense urban or indoor environments.
Can GPT12-X Ultra be used globally?
The supported LTE-M / NB-IoT bands are designed for global deployments, but real-world availability depends on local operators and roaming agreements. Before large-scale rollout, check coverage maps for your SIM provider, run a small pilot in each region, and confirm that at least one LTE-M or NB-IoT network is available at your key sites and corridors.
Does GPT12-X Ultra require wiring or an external power supply?
No. GPT12-X Ultra is a self-contained, battery-powered tracker. There is no need to connect to vehicle power or run cables. Once the SIM is provisioned and the device is activated, installation is simply about physically mounting it in the right place on your asset.
Where should I place the tracker on a vehicle or asset?
For reliable GNSS performance, mount the face marked “THIS SIDE UP” upward with as clear a view of the sky as possible. Avoid placing the device directly under thick metal, heater film or metallic-coated glass. On vehicles, typical locations include under dashboards with plastic covers, inside body cavities with plastic or fiberglass panels, or on cargo surfaces where the top side has sky view.
How can I verify that an installation is working?
After mounting, take the asset outdoors, wait for the device to obtain a GNSS fix, and confirm that it appears on your tracking platform with the correct location. Trigger a short movement or power-on event to verify that alerts and history records arrive as expected before closing panels or handing the asset over to operations.
Which platforms and apps work with GPT12-X Ultra?
GPT12-X Ultra is fully compatible with Eelink’s Keelin web platform and mobile apps for real-time tracking, history playback, geofencing and alert management. Many customers use Keelin as a turnkey solution, while integrators connect the device directly to their own servers using the documented EELINK protocol.
Can we integrate GPT12-X Ultra with our existing TMS, WMS or ERP?
Yes. Eelink provides open device protocols and server-side APIs so your developers can ingest location and event data into your own applications. Typical integrations use a TCP / UDP listener that parses EELINK binary messages and then exposes them via REST APIs, message queues or webhooks inside your backend. Protocol documentation, sample payloads and reference code are available on request.
Does GPT12-X Ultra support remote configuration and firmware updates?
Yes. Devices in the GPT12-X family support over-the-air firmware upgrades and remote parameter changes, such as reporting intervals, working modes and alarm thresholds. This lets you refine behavior after deployment without recalling hardware — just remember to leave some battery budget for occasional FOTA sessions in your lifetime planning.
Can Eelink customize GPT12-X Ultra for OEM / ODM projects?
Yes. Eelink operates as an ODM manufacturer: GPT12-X Ultra can be adapted with custom firmware reporting profiles, alarm logic, branding and labels, packaging, protocol or API integration, SIM / APN / server pre-configuration, mounting accessories and regional certification planning. Programs typically run from samples through pilot to mass production across dual manufacturing sites in Yibin, China and Haiphong, Vietnam.
